Kurtis Thompson : Rippin it up!

So I met this little homie a while back up at a Rayne Slide Jam in Vancouver BC. I was chatting with his dad for a bit while I was shooting some pictures. In fact… I think I still have some pics of him! He was definitely killing it back then and killing it even harder now!

DBS Rider update: Pam “Pampita” Diaz!

Check out some photos that Pam Diaz recently sent us, we are STOKED on these and they look super good!

Pam clearly stoked in her balling new hoody!

Another sexy toeside from Pammy!

Heelside madness up in this beezy! The Dominican Republic looks like a shredders paradise.

Well hey there Pam, nice shirt!

We have the best team in the world... sorry everyone else, its true!

Juan Mercado!

Im not sure if many people know but we have been working on an ambassador program to  help spread the stoke. We are trying to hook up up and coming riders from all over the place. Here is one of our homies, Juan Mercado doing his thang, getting all sorts of fun stuff in the mix! Check him out in this fun little edit.

In this he is shredding a Landyachtz Wolfshark, DBS abec 7 bearings, Caliber Trucks, and some Abec 11 flashbacks!

IF you haven’t seen this…

You should probably be watching this cause Levi Green straight up SHREDS. He is officially on Abec 11‘s Green Team now. He is also getting the hook up from Rayne Longboards and you can see him rocking the Rayne Vandal . I would say that Levi is straight hooked up. He is also rocking Abec 11 Biltin bearings and Riptide bushings, which have been making quite a name for themselves lately. Gotta give those a look see.

We needed Photos….

Pete Benda with the Sector 9 Joel Tudor Mini

So we needed to get some photos so Pete and I went out after work and got out jimmy jam on. We set up a Sector 9 Joel Tudor Mini board with some Randal 150’s and some Abec 11/Sublime 62mm 100a Fernando Yuppie Powerslides. It was actually pretty freaking amazing.

Pete Benda with a BS board slide on this lil ledge

I realized that the Sector 9 Joel Tudor Mini Board is probably more of a park board rather than a street board, seeing as how it doesn’t have much concave… and well it isn’t a popsicle shaped deck either.  It has a nice pointed nose and a crazy square-pointy tail thing. Man its crazy fun though. But regardless of shape and size we have fun on this little thing here.

This wasn't even close to a land.

I was doing this little wall ride/slappy thing to 5-0 on here and Pete got a picture of this happening at one point. There is no way I was landing this seeing as how I wasn’t trying to do this at all but it opened up my mind to some tricks I want to get now. Like a slappy 5-0 to no-comply? Or a No-comply slappy to 5-0… the possibilities are endless!

This is more like it

Slappy type tricks are just fun. I like riding on these big Abec 11 wheels cause when you drop off the wheel and onto the hanger when doing a trick you can really feel it. The best part about this little session Pete and I had was that this ledge is so small and dorky but we had such a fun time messing around on it. Thats what I love about skating… doing stupid stuff, having a good time, and not being too concerned with everything being all perfect and in formation. I have to give some of the credit to this board set up though. That Joel Tudor deck is so sick! Sector 9 seriously did an awesome job on that one.

Pete getting a wiff of awesome

Then we found this amazing bank. It is the length of a tennis court and it is seriously phenomenal. We were skating it in pitch black though and so when the flashes went off you were basically left blinded. It was pretty sketchy but fun none the less!

Me - Alley-oop FS 180

One thing besides the board that I was stoked on was that the wheels we were skating were actually very durable. Usually power sliding on tennis courts is a surefire way to get flat spots. I was definitely doing power slides and still no flat spots on these Abec 11/Sublime Powerslides!

Pam Diaz Keeps On Killing It!!!

Pampita… you keep on impressing me and I am sure everyone else as well! I remember it was almost 2 years ago when I found your photography and wanted to do a write up about you on the blog.  Back then you were just starting to get more and more into longboarding… I can still remember all your orders! In no time at all you have turned into a gnarly skater that can threaten the boys on the hill! You have all the skills to make you a prize for any team to have; you skate good, you learn fast, you make rad videos, and you are insanely artistic. Pam, you rock so Im putting you back up on our blog!

For any of you who don’t know… Pam is a 22 year old shredder from the Dominican Republic. She has helped take their small but passionate scene down there and put it on the map. She has already become an Ambassador for “The Longboard Girls Crew,” as well as a team rider for Comet Skateboards. Check out her longboard website, “Long Life, Long Livin‘,” in your spare time.  It is full of photographs and videos, its basically all in spanish (conversations) but skating is a universal language all in its own!

Pam Diaz, You Know You Love Her!

Want to shred like Pam? Well you are going to have to step your game up quite a bit but here is a little insight into the gear she is shredding! In this video above you can see Pam mashing on her Comet Skateboards Grease Hammer, which is an amazingly fun board. She is on some Abec 11 freerides for some of it but then it switches to some Landyachtz Mini Hawgs. For trucks she is on some 176mm RKP Surf-Rodz. She has a nice looking Triple Eight Brainsaver helmet on and if you can’t tell by those awesome yellow pucks, she has some Sector 9 Driver gloves on… some ones I rock!

Pam has really only just stepped onto the scene and she is making a dent everywhere she goes. You best believe that there is a bright future out there for Pam… she is going to get BIG… I called it a while ago and I am sticking to it. You just wait and see! Good job Pam! Keep killing it!😄

Abec 11 / Sublime Fernando Yuppie 62mm Powerslides!

Abec 11 Wheels rock!

Setting up some Powerslides from Abec 11 / Sublime wheels.

Now, I’m not the best at techsliding, and when I say that I mean, I’ve never really done techsliding at all.  BUT I did grow up skateboarding and powerslides are definitely common place.  SO I decided to see how well the Sublime / Abec 11 Fernando Yuppie 62mm Powerslides actually performed.  At first I was actually confused because they are a slide wheel but they come with the tread grooved into them.  I feel like they would be more effective with no tread from the get go.

Finishing the wheels up.

And then the fun begins!  First few slides were rough but once I got the tread worn down the Fernando Yuppies were pretty fun!

Powersliding in a nice Alameda Ridge Driveway

Another slide up in the driveway!

Once you get these wheels worn in I can completely see why techsliding on them would be fun.  I was skeptical at first because I can pretty much flat spot any wheel out there.  Every wheel company out there claims that they have a “no flat spot” formula and the only wheels I haven’t ever been able to flat spot are Powell Bones STF‘s and SPF‘s.  BUT The Anti Flat Spot 100a urethane formula that Abec 11 uses in these is turning out to surprise me.  Im not quite sure how they did it because so many wheel companies like Spitfire, RIcta, OJ, have been out there forever making street wheels and yet Abec 11 was the ones who figured how to make a more durable wheel.  I bet a bunch of skateboarding companies would be pretty bummed out to know that a longboarding company is making a wheel that kind of puts theirs to shame!  Regardless, I am stoked because these wheels are going to be fun trying to wear down as much as possible.

Whats that sweet sticker on that car?

Turns out they are great for street skating too.  There really would be no reason for them not to be!  There was this little step nearby so I had to do a couple little stalls on it.

There was a little step nearby so I had to do some stalls on it. NosePick

Truthfully the shape is actually great for things other than just techsliding as well!  I know these are things that the world of longboarding arent too concerned with, however, I do have faith that more and more people will embrace all sides of skating and pick up a skateboard here and there as well!  The way the wheels cone in paired with how wide they are make them great for locking tricks in on ledges, coping, and whatnot.  The ones I have set up on here are still 62mm but once I get them down to about 58mm I will definitely be mashing around some parks on them.

Me Checking the wear on the wheelsYup, these wheels are rad

So all in all I gotta say that Abec 11 / Sublime Fernando Yuppie 62mm Powerslides are definitely a worthy purchase!  They slide great, they have a great shape, they are very affordable, and so far I have seen no sight of flat spotting.   Whether you are into tech sliding, street skating, or just want some beefy wheels on your deck, these wheels are definitely a great choice!  Good job Abec 11!!!!
