Word on the street is that DBS Ambassador team rider, Pam Diaz, who we absolutely love, is now officially on Abec 11’s [GRNTM] or… “Green Team” if you aren’t in the know. I know it is easily confused with the ever so often used “Great Rustic Northern Table Moose,” but in Abec 11′s case it just stands for Green Team. We don’t know all the details yet but we will sure keep you posted so keep on coming back for more news! This year is treating Pam so well and we couldn’t be more proud of her! Well we spilled the beans, lets see what Abec 11 has in store for her!!! Mwuaaahahahahaha!
The Landyachtz EH TEAM and DADDIES BOARD SHOP rider Katie Neilson is on the road doing an East Coast Tour of college campus’s between New York and Florida, making stops everywhere including Chapel Hill, North Carolina where there were sightings of little rippers in Orange all day. In a contest where style is key, its no suprise that the daddies rider went home with best trick for a double grabbed stalefish with an early grab out at the end.
Written by the goddess Skatie Katie herself! Thanks Ms. Neilson!
Thanks for the photos Katie!
Curly Headed Quote of the Day: “I just wish I could put a piece of pizza on someones package.”
This is how our day started out as we got off of work. We had a little session in the parking lot. Anthony has some springs on him so he popped over this trash can pretty easy, he is like a foot over it. Having some standard skating abilities are a must if you want to work here at Daddies. Anthony has some good work ethic and skates well as well so we’re stoked on him.
You check out those wheels? 78a softies! the Satori Brent Atchley P-Town Players… lord knows portland does not have the best streets, its nice to have a smooth rolling set for when you are just mashing around down or if you aren’t in the parks.
Same trick, slightly different shot!
Well, it wasn’t a land but it is still awesome! We’ve found ourselves an awesome new staff member! Stoked for more photo shoots with Anthony!
Im not sure if many people know but we have been working on an ambassador program to help spread the stoke. We are trying to hook up up and coming riders from all over the place. Here is one of our homies, Juan Mercado doing his thang, getting all sorts of fun stuff in the mix! Check him out in this fun little edit.
You should probably be watching this cause Levi Green straight up SHREDS. He is officially on Abec 11‘s Green Team now. He is also getting the hook up from Rayne Longboards and you can see him rocking the Rayne Vandal . I would say that Levi is straight hooked up. He is also rocking Abec 11 Biltin bearings and Riptide bushings, which have been making quite a name for themselves lately. Gotta give those a look see.
So we needed to get some photos so Pete and I went out after work and got out jimmy jam on. We set up a Sector 9 Joel Tudor Mini board with some Randal 150’s and some Abec 11/Sublime 62mm 100a Fernando Yuppie Powerslides. It was actually pretty freaking amazing.
I realized that the Sector 9 Joel Tudor Mini Board is probably more of a park board rather than a street board, seeing as how it doesn’t have much concave… and well it isn’t a popsicle shaped deck either. It has a nice pointed nose and a crazy square-pointy tail thing. Man its crazy fun though. But regardless of shape and size we have fun on this little thing here.
I was doing this little wall ride/slappy thing to 5-0 on here and Pete got a picture of this happening at one point. There is no way I was landing this seeing as how I wasn’t trying to do this at all but it opened up my mind to some tricks I want to get now. Like a slappy 5-0 to no-comply? Or a No-comply slappy to 5-0… the possibilities are endless!
Slappy type tricks are just fun. I like riding on these big Abec 11 wheels cause when you drop off the wheel and onto the hanger when doing a trick you can really feel it. The best part about this little session Pete and I had was that this ledge is so small and dorky but we had such a fun time messing around on it. Thats what I love about skating… doing stupid stuff, having a good time, and not being too concerned with everything being all perfect and in formation. I have to give some of the credit to this board set up though. That Joel Tudor deck is so sick! Sector 9 seriously did an awesome job on that one.
Then we found this amazing bank. It is the length of a tennis court and it is seriously phenomenal. We were skating it in pitch black though and so when the flashes went off you were basically left blinded. It was pretty sketchy but fun none the less!
One thing besides the board that I was stoked on was that the wheels we were skating were actually very durable. Usually power sliding on tennis courts is a surefire way to get flat spots. I was definitely doing power slides and still no flat spots on these Abec 11/Sublime Powerslides!
Pampita… you keep on impressing me and I am sure everyone else as well! I remember it was almost 2 years ago when I found your photography and wanted to do a write up about you on the blog. Back then you were just starting to get more and more into longboarding… I can still remember all your orders! In no time at all you have turned into a gnarly skater that can threaten the boys on the hill! You have all the skills to make you a prize for any team to have; you skate good, you learn fast, you make rad videos, and you are insanely artistic. Pam, you rock so Im putting you back up on our blog!
For any of you who don’t know… Pam is a 22 year old shredder from the Dominican Republic. She has helped take their small but passionate scene down there and put it on the map. She has already become an Ambassador for “The Longboard Girls Crew,” as well as a team rider for Comet Skateboards. Check out her longboard website, “Long Life, Long Livin‘,” in your spare time. It is full of photographs and videos, its basically all in spanish (conversations) but skating is a universal language all in its own!
Want to shred like Pam? Well you are going to have to step your game up quite a bit but here is a little insight into the gear she is shredding! In this video above you can see Pam mashing on her Comet Skateboards Grease Hammer, which is an amazingly fun board. She is on some Abec 11 freerides for some of it but then it switches to some Landyachtz Mini Hawgs. For trucks she is on some 176mm RKP Surf-Rodz. She has a nice looking Triple Eight Brainsaver helmet on and if you can’t tell by those awesome yellow pucks, she has some Sector 9 Driver gloves on… some ones I rock!
Pam has really only just stepped onto the scene and she is making a dent everywhere she goes. You best believe that there is a bright future out there for Pam… she is going to get BIG… I called it a while ago and I am sticking to it. You just wait and see! Good job Pam! Keep killing it! XD
I don’t know how many of you guys warmed up to Arbor since they up’ed their downhill and freeride program but first thing I did was set up a Vugenhausen and go shreddin’ with it. Obviously you can see that this new micro-dropped deck, called The Prodigy, has some striking resemblances with the Vugenhausen. Also check out those pockets in the concave! Very sharp angles and man do they look amazing! They will no doubt be great for getting leverage in slides and cornering.
Heres what we know about The Prodigy so far. Get ready to get stoked!
- It has 7 wooden plys and 4 fiberglass plys.
- It is 38 inches long and 9.85 inches wide with a 30 inch wheelbase.
With the team that Arbor has (James Kelly, Kody Noble, Jimmy Riha) I personally find it kind of hard to hate on them. I was mind blown the first time I rode the Vugenhausen and to this day it is still a happy family member in my quiver. Also, I am not sure but that also looks like a new graphic for The Assault! Get your cruise and carve on!
